Visual Impairment Service (VIS)

Visual Impairment Service (VIS) is a regional specialist education service supporting children across South East Wales.

VIS aims to support the successful inclusion of children and young people with visual impairment (VI)/ multi sensory impairment (MSI) in their local communities, nurseries, mainstream and special schools. Referrals are welcomed from anyone involved with children and young people who may have concerns regarding a possible visual or dual sensory impairment.

VIS is able to provide a range of services in relation to individual needs, offering choice to children, young people and parents/carers. Expertise and resources are available to schools to enable full inclusive access to the whole curriculum. Partnership working with other support agencies and professionals is promoted and encouraged.

We aim to ensure that all children or young people achieve their optimum potential alongside their siblings and friends. The primary focus of our work is a commitment to meeting the needs of all children and young people whose vision loss presents a barrier to teaching and learning.
